Temporary Workshop Supervisor - Vehicle Maintenance

Pay Rate: £14.17 per hour PAYE
Occasional Saturday working/overtime required.
The purpose of the role is to provide a vehicle maintenance and repair service for the Council owned vehicle fleet. Maintain all vehicles to a level suitable to comply with current legislation and to maintain those vehicles at that level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake repairs and maintenance to specialist vehicles within fleet.
- Work to strict deadlines in relation to service and safety inspection.
- Manage and organise the day to day running of the vehicle workshop.
- Supervision of workshop staff who undertake all tasks associated with vehicle maintenance
- including maintenance to 25 specialist vehicles.
- Supervision of staff during off site repairs at the roadside.
- To mentor workshop staff, monitor the quality of work, ensure all Health and Safety policies are adhered to, give clear and consistent instructions on work tasks, monitor and keep records of progress, provide feedback and encouragement.
- Obtain best value when purchasing vehicle parts.
- Ensure procurement regulations are adhered to when ordering for the workshop.
- Keep records of all purchases made.
- To communicate with Waste Management staff with regard to vehicle roadworthiness.
- Keep vehicle maintenance records.
- Maintain an annual servicing / MOT schedule.
- Service specialist large goods fleet in line with the Vehicle Operating Standards Agency (VOSA) legislation.

Qualifications:
- City & Guilds Automotive Maintenance & Repair (NVQ Level 3 or
- above) or equivalent formal motor industry qualification.
- Previous workshop experience.
- Must have a full UK HGV driving licence.
Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
- Basic reading and writing skills (able to read instructions and labels etc).
- Substantive previous experience of working on both HGV and LGV.
- Welding experience.
- Be able to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
- Working knowledge of vehicle electrical faults and repairs and hydraulic systems.
- Good knowledge of Euro 6 emission systems and Cambus electrical systems.
- An understanding of Health and Safety issues.
- Basic IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
