We are seeking a suitably experienced and qualified Traffic Engineer to work within the Highway Development & Traffic Section. The post holder will be expected to assist in the delivery of a comprehensive range of professional and technical services to enable the Council to meet our obligations to investigate accidents and take steps to reduce and prevent accidents and promote road safety   

Key Responsibilities: 


  • To undertake all aspects of accident investigations, preparing and submitting detailed reports on the findings and maintaining the traffic collision database.  
  • Investigating verbal and written communications / complaints by MPs, Councilors, Community Councilors, Police, general public, developers, utilities etc. and taking appropriate action, including liaison with internal and external agencies where necessary  
  • To liaise with Councillors, Community Councils, members of the public, other departments and external bodies over matters of concern relating to traffic and road safety issues and take appropriate action.  
  • Undertake site surveys / investigations in relation to road safety and traffic management issues and prepare letters / reports and recommendations identifying solutions  
  • Preparation of variety of Traffic / Road Safety Schemes using Autocad and other associated Packages such as KeySign, KeyPost, KeyLINES, KeyACCIDENTS as appropriate.  
  • The design / Issuing & approval and issue of all types of signing and lining for relevant schemes, and improvements, in accordance with appropriate regulations and specifications in compliance with Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.  
  • Drafting and processing of traffic regulation orders under the Road such as Parking / Waiting Restrictions, speed limits, weight limits, Calming, banned turns, prohibition of driving etc In accordance with Road Traffic Regulation Act and maintaining records / updating data base / Filling system

  • HND/Degree level qualification or equivalent level of experience in Civil Engineering (or related discipline) 
  • An excellent working knowledge of environmental legislation and highways legislation, County Policy and good practice 
  • Previous experience in similar role
