Full Job Title: Temporary Seasonal Assistant Pier Master – Environment

NB: There is a vacancy for a part time position cover 8 hours per day Saturday, Sunday and Monday until the end of September but there is also need for temporary additional cover for the full time Pier Master. There are therefore extra hours available Tuesday to Friday or the possibility of 2 roles. Either one full time and one part time or two shared positions covering 7 days per week on a rota basis.
To assist with the day to day operations on the Prince of Wales Pier, Falmouth and to be responsible for the strict observance of rules, regulations, undertakings and bye-laws.
The duties include responsibility for navigation lights, directing craft to berths, reporting necessary repairs, checking of safety equipment (including Fish Strand Quay) and maintaining the general cleanliness of the Pier and landing steps, together with such other reasonable duties as may be required from time to time in connection with the duties of the post.
To act as a focal point for members of the public and to be able to give them any relevant information required.
Weekend and bank holiday working is essential to this role.

- Skills & Abilities:
- Empathy and patience when dealing with customers and able to deal appropriately with challenging behaviours including demonstrating good interpersonal and social skills in order to deal with the many and varied customers and stakeholders
- Ability to work on your own initiative whilst representing the broader interests of the Maritime Section of the Council
- Ability to enforce regulations, byelaws, conditions etc. on all stakeholders including members of the public, boat operators, mooring holders etc.
- Ability to work alone and to deal with people.
- Writing and report writing skills are an advantage
- ICT Skills: IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite)
