Full Job Title: Temporary Legal Admin Assistant – Community Services Childcare Team

To undertake quasi-legal tasks associated with the conduct of casework in the Legal Services team to which the post holder is assigned from time to time including:

  • Preparation (by collating, indexing, paginating, copying and checking the necessary papers) of bundles.
  • Preparation, under supervision, of witness statements (including interviewing witnesses where appropriate without supervision or completing statements drafted by witnesses)
  • Liaising with the court and/or Counsel’s clerk concerning hearing dates, conferences etc and attending at court for the purpose of assisting solicitors or Counsel.
  • Dealing under supervision with a limited case load, and dealing with duty queries on duty rota;
  • Dealing, under supervision, with routine correspondence;
  • Dealing, under supervision, with routine applications to court and, in appropriate cases, appearing as advocate on behalf of the Council.
  • Attending meetings in connection with the postholder’s work, including monitoring and review meetings;
  • Designing and producing standard and non-standard documentation required in various proceedings
  • Preparing and presenting briefing papers and reports for the team on legal issues arising out of the postholder’s work or recent developments in legislation or case law as requested by the Assistant Director of Law.

 

Specific Role Requirements” – to give yourself the maximum chance of success please try and ensure your CV addresses the following essential criteria:

  1. Law degree, CPE, Graduate Diploma in Law or ILEX qualification or equivalent
  2. Experience in the legal profession at the level of a legal assistant or paralegal education, employment, housing, litigation, childcare, contracts, property and planning
  3. Basic knowledge of the practices and procedures relating to one of those areas of law
  4. Ability to assist lawyers to prepare for a court or tribunal hearing
  5. Ability to communicate and present legal and other matters clearly and cogently both verbally and in writing
  6. ICT Skills: Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite)
