Temporary Lawyer

To undertake PLO/pre-litigated child protection work and have conduct of child protection cases for the Local Authority including Advocacy
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide advice on and have conduct of, legal proceedings including briefing counsel where appropriate.
- Advise departments including Chief and Senior Officers to ensure lawfulness of Council activity.
- Act as an advocate in the Family Court representing the Council.
- Attend and advise in meetings including meetings involving Elected Members, providing legal and procedural advice as required.
- Deal in a timely manner with correspondence and enquiries from private practice solicitors, courts, witnesses etc.
- Maintain a thorough appreciation of relevant rules, regulations and legislation.
- Work within the systems, policies and procedures of the office to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Section, ensuring the County Council policies, legislation, financial regulations and standing orders are adhered to

- Must be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister or be a Chartered Legal Executive Lawyer (Fellow of CILEx)
- Knowledge of current and proposed legislation and case law relating to childcare law, adoption and local authority duty and functions in relation to children generally
- Experience of working as a Lawyer dealing with matters related to child protection and adoption
- Have a high level of communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate and influence across a range of audiences
- Able to work effectively and efficiently under pressure
