Full Job Title: Temporary ICT Technical Lead Officer – Schools

Hybrid role.

An experienced Microsoft Server/network /project engineer is required within the Traded Service for Schools Team. Immediate until end of September, possibility of extension.

Provides technical leadership for all the ICT support, advice & guidance provided to schools and other similar educational establishments, designing their ICT solutions including PCs, Laptops, File Servers, applications and networks together with any peripheral equipment. As required, leads on the technical support, advice & guidance provided by the Schools ICT Team to internal Council staff where applicable, and is responsible for the professional technical development of the whole team.

Specifics include:

Provide 3rd line telephone and remote ICT support to customers and subordinate members of the team within a busy helpdesk environment.

  • Ensure that all support requests are recorded accurately within the call logging system, handling support tickets promptly and effectively.
  • Deliver 3rd line technical ICT support to customers on site where required, and provide help and guidance to other members of the team to deliver these services. Provide leadership on all technical matters, working closely with the Schools Hardware Support Team Leader.
  • For all requests that cannot be resolved, provide an effective specialist interface between users and product/service providers supplying all necessary diagnostic information, according to established procedures. Use judgement to set priorities for resolution, monitor progress and apply escalation procedures for problems not progressing satisfactorily. Provide summary updates to the Schools Hardware Support Team Leader and the ICT Application Support and Commercial Manager as required.
  • Exercise technical leadership and ingenuity. Assist users/customers in making more effective use of their ICT products and services, investigating complex problem situations through diagnosis of underlying causes and devising solutions or workarounds to help users/customers to recover or continue operations, or to develop new ICT services for them.


Specific Role Requirements” – to give yourself the maximum chance of success please try and ensure your CV addresses the following essential criteria:

  1. Educated to at least GCE A level, SCE Higher grade or equivalent standard.
  2. Experience:
    1. Has achieved proficiency in the Role of User Support - BCS Skills Manager Level 4, OR:
    2. Has gained a comprehensive technical grounding, including a good understanding of Microsoft platforms/ environments.
    3. Has gained experience as a competent user of computer systems, some of which must have been in a position of responsibility.
    4. Has substantial experience of handling user contact.
  3. Knowledge, Skills and Understanding:
    1. Has good oral communication skills.
    2. Takes an analytical approach to problem solving.
    3. Is thoroughly familiar with the concepts and practices required to implement effective ICT solutions, particularly those employed in own organisation.
    4. Experience of working in an educational setting would be advantageous.
    5. Awareness of ITIL would be advantageous.
  4. ICT Skills: Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite)
