Full Job Title: Interim Housing Officer – Housing Support

The candidate will predominately be working from home however is required to provide office cover according to business needs.

An experienced Housing Options Officer is required with a minimum of 6 months.

Acting as a single point of contact for triaging, assessing, and providing mediation to prevent homelessness where possible and specifically focus on coordinating the response to Ukraine households where sponsorship accommodation is either unsuitable or where relationships have broken down.

In addition to this, the candidate will be responsible for assessing homeless applications in accordance with the Homeless Reduction Act 2017 and Part VII Housing Act 1996. A suitable candidate will be able to take a holistic and person -centred approach to providing comprehensive housing advice to prevent and alleviate homelessness.

Candidates will need to be able to assess homeless applications under the legislation, make homelessness inquiries and produce quality personalised housing plans and issue s184 homeless decisions. Candidates will need to demonstrate proven evidence of working for a local authority in a Housing Options Team.


Specific Role Requirements” – to give yourself the maximum chance of success please try and ensure your CV addresses the following essential criteria:

  1. Knowledge:
    1. Thorough understanding of inner city housing issues
    2. Understanding of access to social housing locally
    3. Awareness of issues and initiatives facing local authority housing
    4. Knowledge of relevant Lettings, Homelessness and Housing Act legislation including security of tenure and private tenants’ rights
    5. Knowledge of relevant case laws and Codes of Guidance
    6. A good knowledge of services, benefits and support available to applicants experiencing housing problems
  2. Experience:
    1. Experience of providing an effective advice service to members of the public
    2. Experience of implementing an equality and diversity approach to service delivery
    3. Experience of working in a team
    4. Experience of working with homeless clients
    5. Experience of carrying out interviews, investigations, negotiations
    6. Experience of effective record keeping including electronically
    7. Experience of successfully working to performance targets and deadlines
    8. Experience of using housing Locata/jigsaw is desirable
  3. ICT Skills: Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite)
