Temporary Housing Options Officer - Community Housing

The purpose of the role is to ensure that people applying to the Council for assistance in resolving a housing problem, receive advice about the housing options available to them, and support to access housing and other services that they need. Also, prevent and resolve homelessness wherever possible by providing advice, information and ongoing support to those in housing need.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive housing options and support advice and information to all callers requiring assistance because they are in housing need.
- Carry out comprehensive assessments of the housing and support needs of people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
- Undertake enquiries into the circumstances of housing applicants, obtaining and checking documents, contacting family, friends and partner agencies, and gathering information for the purposes of preventing homelessness, verifying applications and fully identifying needs and risks.
- Make recommendations the Senior Housing Options and Support Officer on the provision of temporary accommodation for applicants, advising on the most suitable type of accommodation that should be provided.
- Initiate and/or to deliver a programme of support, maintaining contact and engagement with clients, regularly reviewing and updating support plans as appropriate.
- Work co-operatively with colleagues in other relevant services to implement the Common Assessment Framework for children and young people, organising or participating in Team Around the Child and other multi agency meetings, taking the Lead Professional role where appropriate.
- Support and encourage clients to develop life skills, giving advice and practical help with income maximisation, welfare benefits, budgeting, diet and health, education, training, employment, furnishings and removals.
- Work closely with Children’s Services, Adults and Older Peoples Services, Health Services, Criminal Justice Agencies, mediation services, support agencies, substance misuse services, employment and training advice services and others to assess and meet the needs of clients, obtaining and sharing information and making referrals as appropriate.
- Maintain comprehensive, confidential and accurate case records for clients of the service, identifying any risks or concerns to the Senior Housing Options and Support Officer.
- Undertake home visits including on an emergency basis, with the aim of preventing homelessness, and delivering support to vulnerable people to sustain accommodation.

Qualifications:
- 3 GCSE's, Grades A-C, or equivalent including English and Mathematics
Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
- Ability To Carry Out Assessments & Review Customers' Details.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Good Time Management Skills.
- Previous experience in similar role.
- Previously completed validation checks to ensure the accuracy of data
- ICT Skills: Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
