What's involved with this role:

Full Job Title: Temporary Finance Assistant – Resources

Reference no: Caerphilly 5211220

Provide financial support to the Group Accountant and Senior Assistant Accountant in the provision of financial management information to Service Divisions within the Environment Directorate (including Engineering, NCS, Planning, Public Protection) and also the Property and Performance Services Division of Corporate Services Directorate.

Undertake all financial administrative functions in support of the accountants and ensure all financial administrative processes are undertaken and target deadlines met in relation to staff timesheet processing, overtime / standby, other pay variations and queries, internal / external recharging, creditor payment processing and supplier queries, cash banking and allocation etc.

Assist in the production of management information reports including income recharge analysis, expenditure, staffing costs, financial data and documentation in support of grant claims etc.


Specific Role Requirements” – to give yourself the maximum chance of success please try and ensure your CV addresses the following essential criteria:

  1. Qualifications:
    1. Minimum of 5 GCSEs Grade A*-C including Mathematics and English Language or equivalent Level 2 qualifications on the Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales which require the same level of ability in Mathematics and English Language.
    2. AAT - desirable
  2. Knowledge:
    1. Cash banking procedures.
    2. Sound working knowledge of Finance / Payroll systems.
    3. Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including national, local conditions of employment.
    4. A good understanding of costing requirements.
    5. A good understanding on internal/external recharges.
    6. Knowledge and practice of best value.
    7. Sound working knowledge of iTrent, Proactis, OLAS General and Purchase ledgers - desirable
  3. Payroll experience.
  4. Purchase Ledger experience.
  5. Able to achieve set corporate deadlines in relation to payroll, creditor payments, cash banking including late payments targets.
  6. ICT Skills: Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite)
