The purpose of the role is to provide quality family time session for children in local authority care.
Key responsibilities:
- Support children, young people and their families with practical and domestic tasks and health promotion activities in line with agreed steps developed as part of the action plans.
- Provide appropriate support to help meet social and emotional needs, maintain family’s independence and keep children safe.
- Alert managers to changes in family circumstances or needs and respond in emergency situations liaising with colleagues, other agencies, and carers as appropriate.
- Assist parents/carers to meet the needs of their child/young person through engagement in universal activity such as parent and child groups, youth groups, etc, working closely with local community networks, voluntary and self help groups.
- Complete records of work undertaken with families in accordance with the Department’s systems and processes.
- Ensure the safeguarding of children and young people in accordance with safeguarding procedures, health and safety requirements and relevant processes and practices maintaining the confidentiality of families.

Qualifications:
- Level 2 including English and Maths.
Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
- Understanding of the principles of treating others with dignity and respect.
- Understanding of child development 0-19 years.
- Experience of working with children, young people and families with a range of complex and challenging needs.
- Good communication skills including both written and verbal.
- Ability to communicate with and relate to a wide range of service users.
- Ability to form professional relationships and maintain professional boundaries with all family members.
- ICT Skills: Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
