Temporary Anatomical Pathology Technician – Public Mortuary

DBS required for this role (level TBC assumed Enhanced)
The post holder will participate in the call out rota system for emergencies and be willing to undertake evening and weekend work when required.
To take responsibility for delivering a full range of mortuary activities and assisting pathologists with coronial post-mortem examinations. The post holder will assist in the administrative arrangements for the reception of bodies into the mortuary, the release for burial or cremation and associated activities.
Key responsibilities:
- Maintenance of the service for the reception and processing of bodies, including major incidents and disasters.
- Receive decomposed, verminous and other bodies, and prepare them for the post mortem including stripping, searching and evisceration.
- Assist in the keeping of statutory and other records, returns and the recording of valuables and personal possessions.
- Maintain all requirements of the licence issued by the Human Tissue Authority relating to the mortuary.
- Ensure a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene of the structure and equipment in the mortuary, especially disinfection of the post-mortem room, and other high risk areas and to devise and adhere to a cleaning schedule.
- Liaise with Coroner, Pathologist, Coroners Officer, undertakers, and other Council staff, as appropriate.
- Liaise with the Police Authority and to assist their staff in any investigation as required, including fingerprinting, testing, etc.
- Sympathetically assist members of the public who attend the mortuary to view bodies.
- Collection of samples/specimens as directed by the Coroners Officers.
- Assist in the release of bodies and appropriate documentation to undertakers.

- Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology.
- Experience of continuing professional development within the Mortuary Service.
- Minimum of 1 years’ experience of working in a Mortuary.
- Knowledge of the procedures for the preparation and reconstruction of bodies during the post mortem process.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Well organised, with good administrative and computer skills.
