Full Job Title: Temporary Accommodation Support Officer – Housing Support

Pay Rate: £19.00 per hour PAYE

To support households who are placed in Cheshire East’s temporary accommodation under the provisions of the homelessness legislation, assisting them to engage with other agencies and facilitating their move on to permanent accommodation.

  • Manage referrals into temporary accommodation from the Housing Options Team, to undertake initial tenancy sign ups and assessments of households to determine their level of support required and complete risk assessments.
  • Provide and deliver a support package with a plan for households which will enable them to settle into the temporary accommodation and identify barriers to them obtaining settled accommodation.
  • Work with the Housing Options Team and partner agencies to facilitate prompt move-on into permanent housing.
  • Complete accurate records, inventories and paperwork, including housing benefit claim forms, and liaise with Benefits Section to ensure rental payments are received.
  • Deal with basic building maintenance issues, such as ordering cleaning of vacant rooms and ordering repairs as needed via liaison with Asset Management Section.
  • Organise removals and storage of household furniture when required.


Specific Role Requirements” – to give yourself the maximum chance of success please try and ensure your CV addresses the following essential criteria:

    1. Experience:
    2. Minimum of 12 months recent homelessness/accommodation support experience, preferably within a similar role or context and ideally within a public sector organisation
    3. Previous experience in a support worker role or equivalent
    4. Previous experience of working in a hostel/supported accommodation environment
  1. Knowledge:
    1. Understanding of data protection, freedom of information and confidentiality requirements
    2. A working knowledge of Housing Law relating to homelessness and allocations and private sector tenancies
    3. A working knowledge of Housing Benefits and Welfare Rights legislation
    4. A working knowledge of child protection & adult safeguarding issues
  2. Fully proficient at using IT systems, with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office packages
