Full Job Title: Temp Library Services Assistant/Admin – Cultural Services

Basic DBS disclosure required
To provide friendly, helpful and inclusive library services to customers.
To maintain the library in a safe and attractive manner, ensuring smooth running of services and accessibility by customers and staff.
To assist Customer Service Officers and Development Officers in the day-to-day delivery of services, events and stock work
To respond to customer queries in person, by phone and in writing to a professional standard.
Specifics include:
- Assisting customers in person, via email and on the telephone, providing an efficient and friendly service, referring customers to other staff or other sources of information as appropriate.
- Effectively promoting the library services and encouraging use
- Ensuring effective issue and return of library stock and, where possible, assisting customers in the use of self-service machines.
- Daily cash handling, including the use of tills.
- Assisting new customers in joining the library.
- Undertaking stock work including processing new books, collection management reports, shelf tidying and displays
“Specific Role Requirements” – to give yourself the maximum chance of success please try and ensure your CV addresses the following essential criteria:
- Experience:
- Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation
- Previous library services experience – desirable
- Experience of working in a front line Customer Service Environment
- Can demonstrate a knowledge of assisting in organizing, promoting and delivering events
- Experience of cash handling
- Specific Skills required for this Role:
- Ability to understand varied filing systems e.g. Alpha-numerical, and shelve books in order
- Ability to promote library services with the public verbally and through displays and promotional material
- Able to respond to Customer enquiries both face to face, online and via telephone
- Able to deliver events and activities including children’s storytimes, IT classes and class visits
- Able to work with volunteers, deliver basic site inductions and supervise the completion of day to day t
- ICT Skills: Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite)
