Full Job Title: Temporary Assessment Centre Admin Assistant – Social Care

To apply, operate and co-ordinate administrative processes, and provide full administrative support across the whole Assessment Centre and wider Transactional Services function.


  • To have a working knowledge of current Housing Benefit/Council Tax Reduction Scheme/ Free School Meals and Social Care Charging regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Calculate weekly charges based on social care customers’ personal financial information and confirm in writing to ensure customers are informed of their current charge for services and the Council’s terms of trade.
  • Complete necessary administrative tasks relating to payments to external providers to ensure that contractual obligations are met, invoices are paid in accordance with the Council’s financial regulations and that customer invoices are generated accurately and on time.
  • Maintain customers’ records accurately via the Council’s on-line computer systems, complying with Data Protection, Freedom of Information and other security standards.
  • To provide support, training or mentoring to colleagues and partners as required.
  • Deal with non-routine and complex Assessment Centre enquiries by telephone, in writing and face-to-face from a wide range of contacts, including service users and external providers to ensure charges are made accurately and in accordance with agreed national and Council policies and procedures.
  • Work in partnership with the Council Tax Billing/ Debt Recovery/ Corporate Fraud sections and maintain effective communication on common issues.
  • Liaise with Social Care teams, DWP offices, the Rent Officer Service, Housing Associations and private landlords on individual cases.
  • Assist in reviewing administrative and financial systems and procedures to ensure that they are properly operated, problem areas are identified and recommendations for improvement are made.


Specific Role Requirements” – to give yourself the maximum chance of success please try and ensure your CV addresses the following essential criteria:

  1. Minimum of 12 months recent office administration experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation
  2. Experience of working in financial / administrative environment.
  3. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  4. Proven experience in dealing with customers, providing advice and information on a 1 to 1 basis - desirable
  5. Experience in communicating with vulnerable members of the community and effectively with other organisations - desirable
  6. ICT Skills:
    1. Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite)
    2. Experience of Academy/Civica/Liquidlogic/ Controcc/ Financial systems
