Temporary Support Worker - Family Contact

Pay Rate: up to £14.00 per hour PAYE depending on experience   

37 Monday – Friday, normal working hours 

This opening assignment is for 2-3 months  

City: SOUTH WIGSTON   

Office based for contact, but some hours can be remote for write ups. Will need to drive - the role includes collecting children from foster care. 

Enhanced DBS disclosure required 

This role would predominantly comprise of supervising contacts between children and their families and transporting children to and from contact and also some words and pictures/ life story work 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

  • Work as part of an integrated team to provide a range of home/centre-based family support interventions that contribute to achieving an improvement in outcomes for children, young people and families and care leavers.  
  • Work as part of an integrated team providing support for young people regarding issues of housing, benefits, education, employment and independence.  
  • In Children in Care Service the support worker will work with care leavers over 18 years of age, holding a case load of young people to ensure continuing individual support with these issues  
  • Be accountable for identified appropriate casework.  
  • Advise and guide parents and where relevant young people in managing household affairs, practical child care tasks, and other means of providing for the care of children. This may involve flexible work patterns including early mornings, early evenings and occasionally weekends  
  • Contribute to safeguarding assessments and plans and report observations with regard to the standards of care provided by parents and report such observations to social workers, and Support and Assessment Workers  
  • Supervise and monitor contact when part of the child’s plan.  
  • Be part of co-ordinating self help activities for parents/carers/young people and ensure that children in need benefit from all neighbourhood services in an integrated way, at the same time working with other professionals to achieve this goal. 
  • Provide necessary transport for children/young people and parents/carers when it is part of the child’s plan.  
  • Undertake requested Life Story and direct work to extend their learning opportunities

Qualifications: 

  • NVQ level 3 in childcare qualification (NNEB/NVQ3) or equivalent 

 

Knowledge: 

  • Basic Knowledge of child development  
  • An understanding of the rights of service users  
  • Understanding of social and environmental factors that have an affect on vulnerable, children, young people and families. 

 

Experience: 

  • Previous experience of caring for children or young people in a personal, voluntary or statutory capacity or experience of working to protect and improve the life changes of children or young people  
  • Experience in a social care setting  
  • Experience of working with service users from different cultural backgrounds 

 

Skills & Abilities: 

  • Written skills sufficient to produce clear and accurate records. 
  • Verbal and interpersonal skills to communicate clearly with children, young people, families, colleagues and professionals. 
  • Able to encourage independence
