City: LEICESTER
Streetmason Improver required to support City Highways in undertaking highways maintenance and improvement works
Key Responsibilities:
- Laying to line and level natural and pre-cast paving materials such as slabs, kerbs, blocks etc.
- Constructing associated highway features such as gullies, drains, ducting and chambers etc. Erection and installation of miscellaneous street furniture including bollards, benches, bins, traffic signal posts etc
- The training and development of lesser skilled operatives undergoing assessment for craftsperson (BCE) grade (Career Grade) and the supervision of lower grade operatives.
- General manual/labouring tasks involved in the construction, maintenance and repair of highways, sewers and watercourses.
- Operating powered tools, minor plant and machines, driving, cleaning and routine maintenance (eg. Oil, water, tyres, body checks etc.) of vehicles and tractor with simple attachments.
- Competing routine paperwork and records (eg. Timesheets, bonus sheets), interpreting and working to drawings (both construction and safety).
- Understanding of the NRSWA Code of Practice for roadworks to ensure the correct erection and maintenance of safety measures
- Working in other sections of the City Highways on a temporary basis that may include the use of specialist equipment (e.g. breathing apparatus), in foul conditions if necessary, handling poisons used for rodent control.

Qualifications:
- CSCS H&S Test Pass Certificate.
Knowledge:
- Basic knowledge of construction specifications, materials, compaction and workmanship requirements.
- Knowledge of construction Health, Safety and Environmental requirements and safe working procedures
Experience:
- Experience in working with construction tools and machinery is required.
Skills & Abilities:
- Able to work on own as well as in a team and undertake tasks directly.
- Able to carry out work with minimum supervision and direction.
- Ability to use own initiative where appropriate.
- Able to interpret drawings and specifications.
- Able to undertake basic setting out of lines and levels, including pegging out.
