Hybrid working
To assist in the provision of legal advice and support to Council Services primarily on planning, highways work and public rights of way. In particular, to take the lead in drafting planning and highway agreements. There will also be some work as regards Information Governance and Corporate Complaints
Key Responsibilities:
- To personally undertake and maintain a caseload of work with primary emphasis in the area of Town and Country Planning (including s106 agreements, policy, minerals and waste, and CIL) highways work (drafting of agreements and notices) and public rights of way. The caseload is both contentious and non-contentious.
- Assisting, when necessary, other work of the team including Information Governance and Corporate Complaints.
- To provide timely and appropriate good quality legal services to the Council, its service areas and the meetings of Members and Officers Council, including attendance at such meetings ensuring that decisions and actions comply with the Council’s Constitution and are defensible.
- To advise and research on new legislation (with emphasis on practical implementation)
- To assist the Principal Lawyer in the area of high level planning and other associated matters when required.
- To provide advice and guidance to Officers and Members including on the interpretation of legal documents.
- To assist in the drafting and preparation of legal documentation and to undertake negotiation and completion of the same.
- To develop and maintain effective working relationships with other service areas within the Council and with outside organisations where appropriate.
- To research and keep abreast of recent developments in the main areas of work covered and assist in delivering training to client departments on the same from time to time.
- To contribute to the work of the service in order to achieve and maintain high levels of service.

Qualifications:
- Qualified Solicitor / Barrister / Chartered Legal Executive
- Minimum 2: 2 Honours Degree (any subject)
Knowledge:

Experience:

Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to write clear and concise reports and to present informational oral and written skills.
