Interim Senior IT Software Practitioner / Developer

Hybrid role
This role is working within the Transport Tribe, a DevOps tribe who develop and operate a number of systems that provide API based weather data services for the transport industry e.g. aviation, rail and marine. Working exclusively on AWS and extensively with the serverless technologies AWS offer. CDK is heavily used and main language of choice is Python.
Key responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test and document robust, maintainable and secure code using industry standard patterns as per features described on the backlog.
- Write and maintain automation pipelines for managing CI/CD working environments.
- Take an active role in agile ceremonies including scrums, sprint planning, refinement and retrospectives.
- Mentor junior software developers within the tribe providing guidance through code reviews and pair programming.
- Take an active role in supporting the tribe’s technical estate during working hours.

Knowledge:
- Good knowledge and experience of developing and testing software using Python with industry standard patterns.
- Good knowledge and experience of using AWS serverless technologies (Lambda, StepFunctions, DynamoDB, S3, SNS, SQS, CloudWatch, APIGateway, RDS, CloudWatch) within production level IT Systems.
- Good knowledge and experience of building and deploying software into an AWS environment using CDK, codeBuild, codePipeline.
Experience & Skills:
- Experience of using GitHub workflows.
- Experience of using Jenkins to drive CI/CD.
- Experience of working in an Agile SCRUM working environment.
- Experience and understanding of Aviation based weather data and products desirable.
- Communication skills that foster good working relationships with developers, and non-technical stakeholders like Product Owners and Delivery Managers.
- Ability to nurture and bring on junior developers through support and guidance.
