Role is within Regeneration Finance Team focusing on Planning and Property Portfolios Reports to either the Finance Manager or to the Group Accountant. This role will deputise for the Finance Manager and Group Accountant as necessary
The purpose of the role is to work with the Finance Manager or Group Accountants to deliver a full range of high quality financial management and accountancy services to a range of clients. These include the members, strategic directors, and officers of the council as well as to the Council’s auditors, Government departments and external stakeholders in order to support the strategic aims of the council and to assist in the management of the accountancy teams including other professionally qualified staff.
This role also provides specialist knowledge and expertise in order to assist in the city council’s budget process, budget forecasting and monitoring processes. This role provides financial advice to members and officers and ensures that completion of statutory financial statements, statutory returns and financial analysis. It assists in the role of ensuring that the city council’s assets are managed in line with current legislation, the constitution and financial rules and other professional codes of practice

Qualifications:
- Be CCAB qualified i.e. ICA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA and be able to demonstrate professional updating
Knowledge:
- Have knowledge of Local Government Finance
Experience:
- Have experience of advising senior officers and attending management teams and working groups on finance related issues
- Have experience of and the skills needed to manage people and processes to meet deadlines.
- Have substantial experience of preparing budgets for a period of more than one year and of preparing monthly budget monitoring reports.
- Have extensive experience of the preparation of monthly accounts, financial monitoring and final annual accounts.
- Have experience of appraising and evaluating the financial implications of projects and proposals using accounting techniques
Skills & Abilities:
- Have good organisational skills and be able to prioritise work & concentrate time on the most important matters to meet key deadlines
- Have the ability to form good relationships & provide a first class service
- Be computer literate - have a high standard of spreadsheet skills and be proficient in the use of Word, Outlook and Excel etc plus the ability to use financial information systems such as Oracle & if possible large databases such as the Northgate Housing Systems
