This opening assignment is for 11 months


Provide day to day project support and management for planning and delivery of the substance misuse and alcohol workstreams within the public health team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work flexibly with other members of the public health team to identify, prioritise and deliver projects and/or work areas, utilising appropriate methods and techniques to ensure that objectives are delivered effectively and on time.
  • Support project delivery by developing appropriate plans, timelines and reports to enable their progress to be monitored.
  • Plan and deliver ongoing work areas using processes, such as project meetings, workshops, action planning and highlight reporting.
  • Maintain regular communications with other team members to help ensure that progress of work areas is fully understood and appropriate actions can be taken.
  • Develop and present reports and other information to other members of the team and other stakeholders as required.
  • Work with other stakeholders within the council to help ensure that objectives are met, for example members of the communications, finance, procurement or legal teams.
  • Develop and/or contribute to the development of key deliverables,
  • Collect and analyse information relating to ongoing work areas to establish their progress and any barriers to delivery.
  • Work with other stakeholders outside the council, such as other public health teams to help ensure that objectives are met.
  • Undertake any other such duties which are deemed appropriate.

  • Undergraduate degree and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Driving licence


  • Knowledge of some project management techniques and approaches.
  • Knowledge of public health principles and actions to protect and improve health, prevent ill-health and address health inequalities and willingness to further develop knowledge in this area.


  • Experience of delivering identified objectives, including meeting targets within identified timescales.
  • Experience of working effectively in a partnership environment with a range of stakeholders, teams or organisations to achieve identified objectives and programmes of work.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Project management skills Interest in public health
  • Able to organise workload, prioritise competing demands and work to deadlines and acting on own initiative.
  • Able to communicate effectively utilising a range of methods with a variety of individuals and groups, both internally and externally.
  • Able to assess and analyse information to produce reports and presentations in a variety of formats for a range of stakeholders.
  • Able to produce clear and structured documentation, such as reports and action plans and planning and preparing financial statements promptly and rapidly as required.
  • Able to interpret, analyse and process relevant data sources both manually or computerised and maintain confidentiality and security.
  • Able to work effectively within a team environment, or autonomously as required.
  • Able to demonstrate work-related duties to other staff as required.
