Temporary Public Health Practitioner

The worker will be responsible for the public mental health agenda across the life course. The worker will also provide additional capacity for the healthy weight agenda, working with other colleagues
Key responsibilities:
- Work alongside the Public Health Specialist to deliver on National and Regional plans/ guidance and objectives within both the City Plan and the Sunderland Health and Wellbeing Board Strategy.
- Provide public health leadership for public mental health across the lifecourse.
- Lead on the implementation of the mental health concordat, providing both systems leadership and assurance.
- Provide systems leadership to the prevention of suicides.
- Support commissioners and partners across the Council and organisations represented on the Health and Wellbeing Board to improve mental health outcomes for the population of Sunderland.
- Provide public health leadership for healthy weight across the lifecourse.
- Work with the Public Health Lead to deliver service improvements to ensure the local authority achieves its key performance indicators.
- Provide advice and guidance to Council officers and other stakeholders in relation to the priority area and associated commissioned services.
- Ensure that evidence-based practice is promoted and that organisations are influenced to deliver and embed a range of public health programmes.
- Lead the production of relevant chapters of the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and undertake or contribute to consultation, equity audit, equality impact assessment, service review and evaluation, as required

- A relevant degree, supplemented by public health, health improvement or public health commissioning improvement knowledge, acquired through training, courses and or experience and continuing professional development
- Holding or willing to work towards registration as a Public Health Practitioner through the UK Public Health Register
- Knowledge and understanding of applying public health theory and practice and assessing and describing the needs of a defined population
- Knowledge of health inequalities and social determinants of health
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, national strategies, policies and interventions in relation to Public Health
- Experience of commissioning services in a multi-agency environment
- Experience in directing and co-ordinating multi-disciplinary and multi-agency groups
- Have experience of planning, managing and monitoring budgets
- Effective communication skills to be able to engage with varied audiences using a range of methods in order to share and obtain often complex or sensitive information
- Able to organise workload, prioritise competing demands and work to deadlines
