Interim PT Educational Psychologist – Education Services

A PT Educational Psychologist is required to use knowledge of child development and educational psychology to promote the development of children and young people. To work as a member of a team to support and deliver psychological services in line with the planning objectives of the Learning Trust, Special Educational Needs Service and Educational Psychology Service.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide a consultation based psychological service for children, parents, teachers and others. This will include, as appropriate, direct casework at all thresholds of the Code of Practice, organisational work, systemic work, training and/or research.
- Work with staff from education settings and other agencies and departments to promote effective multi-agency and multi-professional problem solving.
- Maintain records of work in line with agreed protocols.
- Provide, in accordance with EPS protocols, a general consultancy service to a designated group of schools and to maintain records of work undertaken.
- Complete statutory assessments (in line with the regulations set out in the 1996 Education Act and the Code of Practice on the identification and assessment of SENs) for all pupils within the designated patch schools and for named out borough and Early Years pupils: to adhere to the statutory timescales and maintain a record of the work undertaken.
- Undertake EY work upon request.
- Contribute advice to enable the Learning Trust to either defend or concede a SENDIST: this advice may take differing forms and may involve the EP attending the Hearing as a Learning Trust witness.
- Contribute to out of borough Annual Reviews in line with the Learning Trust Annual Review procedures.

Qualifications:
- An honours degree in Psychology or equivalent as recognised by the British Psychological Society.
- Postgraduate Qualification in Educational Psychology.
Experience:
- Experience of working with other professionals in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Substantial experience of assisting teachers, and others, to set and evaluate relevant learning targets, following formal assessment, for children with low incidence needs.
- Substantial Experience of INSET work including evaluations.
- Substantial experience of assisting teachers and others, in making arrangements to meet the needs of children with high incidence SENS.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Knowledge of a consultation based style of EP service delivery.
- A clear understanding of the content of the draft revised code of Practice.
- An understanding of the legislation which determines the context in which educational psychology is delivered.
- A clear understanding of the concept of inclusive education and how it can translate to and influence, EP practice at all levels.
- Clear understanding of child protection procedures and how child protection can impact on children/ young people.
- Clear and effective communication skills.
- Clear commitment to, and understanding of, equal opportunities issues and how they can impact on children/ young people and affect service delivery.
- A clear understanding of the concept of inclusive education and how it can translate to and influence, EP practice at all levels.
- Ability to undertake such training as necessary to fully carry out the full range of duties and responsibilities attached to the post.
- Strong IT skills using Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
