Basic DBS required for this role
A PT Catering Assistant is required to be a member of the resource centre team to prepare light meals and reheat frozen meals for the service users attending the John Billam Resource Centre, taking into account dietary and cultural needs and the specific disabilities related to individual service users.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide a balanced menu that meets the cultural/dietary needs of clients and to vary the choice within the constraints of the budget.
- Ensure that the food/drinks required for each day’s menu are correctly reheated and attractively served using portion control.
- Ensure that kitchen and dining area, utensils/equipment are kept clean, tidy and safe and that health and safety standards to include the safety of service users are maintained.
- Place food orders with appropriate firms, ensure deliveries are received and checked, according to procedure.
- Ensure an efficient stock control system is implemented and maintained.
- Complete appropriate administrative records and associated tasks in respect of the above functions.
- Any other relevant duties of a similar nature and level as required.

Qualifications:
- Sound basic education.
- Certificate in Food Hygiene.
- Food Management Training.
Experience & Knowledge:
- Relevant experience planning menus and following guidelines on nutrition preparing meals.
- A strong knowledge of food equipment and preparing service area, hot cupboards and other equipment as instructed. Knowledge of cleaning catering areas to regulated standards and undertaking any other duties that may be required for the effective operation of the nursery.
- Experience of working in a commercial kitchen.
- Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
- Experience of working as part of a diverse staff team.
- Knowledge of health and hygiene.
- Knowledge of current changes within health and local authorities.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety Act and its application.
