Hybrid working 

To manage and process all planning applications and other related development control work.  To ensure that development is in accordance with current planning legislation, the Council’s planning policies and sound planning principles 

Key responsibilities: 


  • Manage and process all householder applications and conversions, Lawful Development Certificates, minor commercial applications, advertisements applications, applications within conservation areas and listed building consents, and simple changes of use with limited assistance from senior planning officers; assessing development proposals against the Council’s Development Plans and London Plan policies and taking into account material considerations.  
  • Manage and process complex minor applications, with support from senior planning officers, assessing development proposals against the Council’s Development Plans and London Plan policies and taking into account material considerations. 
  • Produce accurate and timely Committee and Delegated reports with minimal supervision, in accordance with the Council’s planning policy guidelines and procedures.  
  • Assisting the appropriate Planning Manager and Enforcement Officers to investigate complaints and reports of breaches/infringements of planning control.  
  • In discussion with a senior planning officer, to carry out unaccompanied site visits on allocated development proposals.  To put up site notices as required. 
  • In discussion with a senior planning officer, to prepare and sign correspondence with minimal supervision.   
  • In discussion with and/or accompanied by a senior planner as appropriate, carry out negotiations with applicants to improve quality of development proposals in accordance with Council policy and to ensure the highest standards and design of development. 
  •  Provide applicants and residents with specific pre-application advice on proposed developments (of a level of complexity commensurate with Item 1) above that may be followed up by a planning application to be dealt with in accordance with that advice. 
  • Accompanied by a senior planner, as necessary, attend local and public meetings with objectors/applicants and Councillors, on allocated applications. Organise, attend and minute the meeting. 
  • Attend Planning Committee Meetings and accurately record the proceedings 

“Role Requirements” – to give yourself the maximum chance of success please try and ensure your CV addresses the following essential criteria: 

  • Town planning degree or recognised degree (e.g. Geography, Economics, Environmental Studies etc.) leading to membership of the RTPI 
  • Experience of Development Management work, dealing with all householder applications, Lawful Development Certificates and simple changes of use with limited supervision 
  • Experience of dealing with complex Minor planning applications with support from senior planning officers 
  • Experience of representing the Council at written representation appeals 
  • Good writing skills to enable the preparation of clear and accurate reports and to deal efficiently with general correspondence 
  • Ability to liaise closely with Planning Support Officers and other staff 
  • Ability to coach and motivate junior members of staff
