To provide legal advice and support to the Borough Council, its officers, employees and councillors in relation to planning matters. Provide support to the Senior Legal Specialist with regard to the conduct of legal planning case work. Attend planning committees and meetings as may be required by the nature of the work. Carry out such other duties in Legal Services as demand requires
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake individual case work of planning matters as may be allocated.
- Negotiate, draft and complete all types of planning documentation including but not limited to section 106 agreements and enforcement notices as may be required from time to time in connection with the Council's planning and regulatory functions.
- Attend the Council’s Planning Committee as required as the Council’s Legal Adviser.
- Assist with management of the Trainee Solicitor and Legal Apprentice and junior members of the team as required.
- Advise on local government law and governance issues as requested and as they arise on the postholders cases. To assist in draft reports, review, comment on and prepare legal implications for reports to the Council, its Executive, full Council, other Council committees and other Officer/Member level meetings.
- Give legal support and advice to Officers and Members of the Executive, Council and other Council committees in respect of the areas of law which fall within the post holder's area of competence .
- Keep up to date with developments in the areas of law and provide that information to relevant senior Council Officers and members of the Legal Services’ Team as necessary, including provision of formal training.
- Maintain a record of all training and development undertaken
- Undertake such other tasks commensurate with the post holder's experience and qualifications as may be allocated from time to time by the Senior and Lead Legal Specialists
