Hybrid working – 2 days in the office

To provide an accurate, effective, economic transactional processing service administering determining and putting into payment payroll and pension data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate records and prepare written communications to the customer and other agencies to obtain information and in response to enquiries.
  • To be familiar with all aspects of the Council’s Payroll system and procedures.
  • Undertake general housekeeping on the payroll system as directed by the Payroll & HR Support Team Manager to ensure that system integrity and security is maintained.
  • Process Payroll data including new starters and leavers, mileage and overtime claims to meet monthly deadlines and issue monthly payslips.
  • Ensure that accurate staff records are maintained and the payroll system is updated to reflect changes in personal data that affect pay calculations, for example, sickness and maternity leave and annual increments.
  • Ensure that the data held is sufficient and in a format that meets the legislative requirements for reporting and annual returns for HMRC, National Insurance and the LGPS.
  • Produce and issue relevant tax forms, for example, P45, P60 forms to employees in accordance with HMRC requirements.
  • Work as a supportive team member in identifying and changing service delivery to ensure continuously improved customer service.
  • Act as an effective team member by providing support and assistance to other team members

  1. Educated to GCSE level with a minimum of 4 passes at Grade C or above (or equivalent).



  1. Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
  2. Must have expereince on Resource Link.
  3. Demonstrable experience of working as an effective and positive contributor to a team.
  4. Demonstrable experience of working to tight deadlines within a performance driven office.
  5. Understanding of Payroll and Pensions processing and legislation.
  6. To have a working knowledge of document management system.
  7. Demonstrable experience of dealing with a variety of customers.

  1. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide and diverse range of customers.
  2. Be customer focused with a understanding of customer needs and expectations.
  3. An ability to respond positively to any changes in working practices.
  4. Ability to work on own initiative and plan and prioritise own workload.

  7. Ability to interpret complex legislation and guidance.
  8. Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
