Hybrid working options with a mix of office and home working available.

To provide legal services in relation to the team’s caseload commensurate to role under the supervision and direction of the Principal Lawyer for the People Team which is mainly Education and Adult Social Care and some Housing. Provide business management and administration support. Advise orally and in writing to Officers and Members where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Where necessary under the direction and guidance of the Principal Lawyer -
    • to provide legal advice in respect of the areas of law covered by the People Team commensurate to role
    • to support the lawyers as directed, including legal research and preparation of court bundles
    • to draft legal documents (e.g. Response to SEND Tribunal/COP / Witness statements) under the supervision of the lawyers
    • to advise clients both orally and in writing on matters as instructed commensurate to the role
  • To work independently and take responsibility for a small caseload of routine matters without detailed supervision
  • Such other duties as may be required from time to time and are within the general level of responsibilities of the post.
  • To contribute as appropriate to the further development of systems and processes by identifying and then pursuing any opportunities for service improvement

Qualifications:

  • 5 GCSEs or equivalent
  • Diploma in Legal and/or Business and/or Administration or equivalent (desirable)

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the principles of local government law and the powers and duties of local authorities (desirable)

Experience:

  • Experience of case files in one or more of the following areas Education/ Adult Social Care/
  • Demonstrable experience of legal research in relation to any of the above areas

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to use Outlook, and a web browser to access information
  • Basic ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
