Enhanced DBS required for this role

This role will involve providing mathematics tuition to adults situated in libraries and other locations such as community centres in the Oxfordshire area.

These adults have a wide range of numeracy skills, and this additional support is intended to be offered in 1 - 2 hour weekly sessions in small groups in order to engage or re-engage them in Mathematics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning each session of tutoring / mentoring.
  • Develop a bespoke and cohesive supporting programme using appropriate resources (funding is available).
  • Providing the adult with holistic and engaging sessions which meet their needs and advance their educational journey.
  • Completing lesson reports and providing feedback on the individual's progress. 
  • Develop and deliver sessions for learners in mathematics ‘engagement’ activities which will have ‘developing confidence
  • with numbers’ and ‘using numeracy to manage their money’ at their core e.g board games which include counting (snakes and ladders) card games, and numeracy related activities.

Qualifications:

  • Professional Teaching Qualifications (for example, PGCE)
  • Current driving licence and own transport.

Experience:

  • Experience of working sensitively with confidential material
  • Minimum 2 years teaching experience.
  • Experience working with adults.
  • Experience, knowledge and understanding of safeguarding processes.
  • Experience of handling data and statistics and retrieving data.
  • Experience in writing copy in plain English.
  • Creating and adapting spreadsheets for business related purposes.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent time and task management skills and experience of delivering tasks under pressure.
  • Time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Evidence of excellent communication, report writing and organisation skills.
  • Ability to work to time scales and follow process
  • Able to travel to different locations.
  • Proven ability to deliver quality written and oral communication to a range of audiences.
  • Effective risk management.
  • Confident in the use of web-based tools for communication.
  • Computer literate
