This opening assignment is for 4-5 months

A Labourer/Driver is required to work in the busy in-house Direct Works Team. This team is a response repairs team who undertake repair works to domestic properties.  To drive, deliver materials, clear properties and support tradesmen with specific jobs.

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for taking allocated materials /plant delivery’s/collections to site either on responsive /void works or planned maintenance repairs. Provide general labour either on your own or by working with a tradesman.
  • Maintain effective communication with the Supervisory/ Administration and management staff passing on information, concerns and problems with regard to any jobs.
  • Attend pre-arranged responsive appointments. Work flexibly to enable repairs to be carried out at reasonable times to suite of the customer.
  • Be courteous and act in a professional manner when dealing with tenants and the public and to act in a manner appropriate to that of a representative of the Authority.
  • Provide a presentable and professional image whilst undertaking duties including wearing clean corporate work wear and keeping allocated vehicle clean and tidy both externally and internally.
  • Be responsible for any allocated vehicle, plant, tools and equipment. To identify defects and report any maintenance/ repair issues to the administration office.
  • Maintain a level of responsibility and duty of care towards your own health & safety and that of your colleagues, tenants and members of the public. To be aware of any risks and dangers and where appropriate inform your supervisor / manager or take action on your own initiative to reduce that risk. Always work to the safe working practice as outlined in the Health and Safety Policy.
  • Work unsupervised and exhibit responsibility for the completion of tasks, acting on own initiative when faced with minor problems.

  • Current driving licence, able to drive a manual gear box lorry.



  • Experience in driving a manual gear box lorry.
  • Understanding of Housing maintenance needs and issues, or the building maintenance environment.
  • Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.


Skills & Abilities:

  • A positive attitude.
  • Must be fit to lift and carry and work at heights as required.
  • Able to assess risks and take steps to avoid or reduce.
  • Able to plan and organise workloads to meet deadlines that can be unpredictable and cause conflicting demands.
  • Able to work on own initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Able to communicate clearly, concisely and courteously with other staff, customers and the public.
  • Good customer services skills and experience of working in front line customer service.
  • Literate and numerate.
  • Prepared to vary working hours to suit Depot or Main Office requirements.
