A Joiner is required to join the team and to carry out joinery works as required.

Key responsibilities:

  • Carry out joisting, flooring, truss roofing, staircases, 1st, 2nd and 3rd fix joinery activities and kitchen installation in accordance with job instructions either verbal or written.
  • Check accuracy of levelling equipment and transfer levels using a spirit level and straight edge.
  • Interpret and comply with drawings, schedules and specifications.
  • Attend briefings when required for safety and policy issues.
  • Maintain all tools, plant and equipment in good order and report any defects in a timely manner.
  • Be aware of and comply with current legislative requirements relating to the construction workplace.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work environment.
  • Comply with risk and method statements and other relevant Health & Safety assessments appropriate to the work.
  • Comply with Council policy and arrangements in respect of use of Council owned/leased vehicles including maintaining in a clean and tidy condition.
  • Assist supervisors/managers in managing stock levels and procuring appropriate materials for the work and on delivery ensure appropriate safe storage, stacking and handling.

Qualifications:

  • Time served apprenticeship and/or NVQ Level 3 Carpentry and Joinery.
  • CSCA Card.
  • Advanced Craft CSCS Card (Gold).
  • Current driving licence.

 

Experience:

  • Able to carry out all 1st fix joinery activities including but not limited to timber carcassing works including fixing of grounds, noggins, partitions, studs to walls and ceilings, timber frame construction, installation of windows, stairs, traditional joists and flooring as well as joist and flooring systems, traditional roofs including hips and valleys, roof trusses, dormers, fascias, soffits and barge boards, linings and stabilising timbers.
  • Able to carry out all 2nd fix joinery activities, including but not limited to fitting kitchens, hanging doors, fixing decorative moldings, construction jointing, mitering, haunching and fixing using all manner of fixtures and fittings.
  • Able to carry out all 3rd fix joinery activities including but not limited to fitting locks, handles and other ironmongery / sundries.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working as a joiner on housing and/or commercial construction projects.

 

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge and understanding of their duties under the Health & Safety At Work Act 1974.

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to use electrically operated power tools for onsite joinery works.
  • Able to operate wood working machines desirable.
  • Good timekeeping skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and part of a team.
  • Understanding of the requirement for and application of safe working practices.
  • Reliable with a flexible approach to work.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training.
  • Ability to access reliable transport to meet the travel requirements of the post.
