An Internal Auditor is required to carry out a number of specific housing related audits. To focus on the delivery of quality audit services to internal and external clients against standards set both internally by Audit Services and those detailed in the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards.
Key responsibilities:
- Producing accurate and timely audit work to meet the required deadlines.
- Undertaking a wide variety of audit assurance and consultancy reviews, specifically within the housing repairs and planned maintenance directorate, as directed by the Audit Manager.
- Interpreting and complying with regulations, internal polices and relevant legislation.
- Proactively identify potential improvements to working practices and make recommendations as required.
- Developing audit testing schedules and writing logical and concise working papers to ensure findings can be evidenced and meet the required professional standards.
- Delivering high quality reviews that add significant value and identify savings where appropriate to the Council, improving the control environment with minimal supervision.
- Providing advice and guidance on the Council’s policies and procedures as needed.
- Presenting review findings to auditees including Senior Managers and Members.
- Handling and processing information with care, confidentiality, and security.
- Deliver the tasks and objectives as agreed with the Audit Manager and drive improvements to working practices by identifying constructive and beneficial changes.

Qualifications:
- Full CCAB recognised qualification (or CMIIA or equivalent).
Experience & knowledge:
- Extensive experience of carrying out social housing audits, in particular relating to the repairs and planned maintenance services of social housing.
- Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
- Extensive knowledge of auditing social housing, in particular the maintenance, repairs and compliance areas.
- An understanding of the role of Internal Audit, and its core principles.

- Excellent analytical skills and highly numerate with the ability to write clear and concise reports using the data collected for a variety of audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills with good verbal communication, networking, influencing and negotiating skills along with the ability to work credibly with staff at all levels in all departments.
