Interim Senior Lawyer

To manage their own caseload and manage other team members   

Key Responsibilities: 


  • To manage and undertake their own caseload, including sensitive and complex cases, with no supervision.  
  • To provide legal advice to officers and elected members. 
  • To conduct proceedings in courts and tribunals, including preparation of witness statements and assisting officers in the preparation of court documentation. 
  • To take part in department projects and inter-departmental projects. 
  • To contribute to the effective performance of Legal Services 
  • To attend, and support, committee meetings and working parties, as required by the Head of Legal Services, and to deputise in her absence 
  • To provide customers with output and service delivery as specified in the service level agreement. 
  • To work with external stakeholders and members as necessary. 
  • To contribute positively towards the successful attainment of the transformation of the Legal function. 
  • To participate fully in the Council’s performance appraisal and personal development process in order to develop and enhance personal performance and service delivery 

“Role Requirements” – to give yourself the maximum chance of success please try and ensure your CV addresses the following essential criteria: 

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister, with a full practising certificate 
  • Specialist in-depth knowledge of contract and public procurement law 
  • Broad knowledge of local government law, data protection law and the Freedom of Information Act 
  • Substantial experience of drafting contracts, advising on contract formation, contract disputes and tender process 
  • Experience of advising on all aspects of commissioning including TUPE and pension issues 
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) 
  • Good IT skills and ability to use electronic case management and time recording system 
  • Ability to build effective relationships with Council members, officers, external stakeholders and other legal team members 
  • Analytical and creative approach to problem solving and decision making
