Full Job Title: Interim Environmental Surveyor – Housing Management

The Environmental Surveyor will have expertise to make day-to-day decisions on the maintenance of the Council’s housing stock. Mostly this will be in relation to repairs to the communal areas as well as improvement works. Working to demanding performance standards, maintaining close control over budgets & close oversight of the health and safety are the key demands of the job. They will be expected to balance workload and prioritise cases according to the needs of the business and residents.
In addition to the core duties of the role, there is a need to co-operate closely with other departments in the council to provide a joined-up service to our residents. The effective management of complaints and casework is crucial to guarantee the high performance of the service.

- RICS or equivalent membership - desirable
- Knowledge:
- Have a good understand construction drawings and specifications.
- Thorough knowledge of building contracts
- A thorough working knowledge of the Party Wall Act and make awards on behalf of the council or clients
- Thorough knowledge of repairs practice and planning.
- Ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of building construction and Building regulations.
- Detailed knowledge of structural engineering and the Housing Construction and Regeneration Act.
- Project Management
- Experience:
- Working in a customer focused organisation
- Working in a technical front-line service
- Substantial technical expertise in building construction and regulation
- Experience of successfully overseeing and delivering a broad range of projects
- Extensive budget management including procurement expertise
- High level of technical skills including the use of CAD
- Ability to prepare and interpret technical reports and legal documentation.
- ICT Skills: Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite)
