The Data Manager plays a key role within the Management Information (MI) team in Product Implementation.

Duties include:

  • Developing new Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) processes in our database environments as part of new and existing projects.
  • Designing and building suitable database structures.
  • Provide support running routine data processes and reports, to scheduled timescales.
  • Creating datasets for reporting and visualisation purposes.
  • Developing data models using a wealth of health reference datasets.
  • Migration of existing databases and assets to new server environments.
  • Trouble shooting data quality issues.
  • Analysis of large and often complex datasets.

The role is part of a close-knit team, working with the Data Manager Lead and support of analysts. Operating to deadlines, in a supportive
and collaborative environment with close interactions with project customer

Knowledge Required:

  • Knowledge and experience of developing Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) processes (SSIS, SQL).
  • Knowledge of database design principles
  • Data management and optimisation expertise, covering process design; code development; data architecture; testing and assurance; and reference / master
    data management.
  • Ability to develop clear process documentation, based on customer requirements, against which a developer could build a technical process.
  • Advanced knowledge of spreadsheets, with experience of making use of their wider functionality (e.g. formulae, lookups, data types, handling dates).
  • Significant data management and optimisation expertise, covering: process design; code development (using languages such as SQL, R, Python or SAS);
    data architecture; testing and assurance; and reference/ master data management.


  • Ability to gather requirements from customers for complex, technical processes.
  • Experience of Agile project planning, e.g. Jira.
  • Experience of Microsoft Power BI for visualising reports.

Skills and Experience

  • Ability to write database queries (SQL).
  • Experience of recognising a variety of data quality issues. Following escalation and handling plans.
  • Proven experience in the assessment and reporting of data quality, both to data suppliers and to senior management.
  • Experience of transforming and manipulating large RAW and structured data e.g. csv / Excel datasets / data pipelines / cloud, in preparation for import into
  • SQL server databases.
  • Working with Dev, Test and Prod data environments including version control mechanisms.
  • Experience in successful delivery of data management services in a large and complex organisation.
  • Ability to understand and follow DM processes and instructions. Paying particular attention to detail.
  • Experience in the collection, analysis, interpretation and prioritisation of customer requirements.
  • Experience in communicating complex and technical concepts and issues to non-technical colleagues, customers and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Able to develop and maintain effective and credible relationships with customers, other business areas and data experts
