This opening assignment is for 2-3 months
Although a Cornwall location is specified these roles will be remote working; candidates will need a good Wi Fi connection and a suitable space within their home to work. A laptop and telephone will be provided with remote support to induct candidates into the roles.
Candidates will need strong experience of all aspects of Council Tax billing and collection, these roles will be predominantly dealing with cases reaching liability order stage and beyond so need to be strong in recovery practice.
The Council Tax Officer will assist in providing an effective, efficient and customer focused Service contributing to the Billing, Collection and recovery of Council Tax, Business Rates, Business Improvement District Levy, recovery of Housing Benefit overpayments, and other Council debts, under the direction of the Revenues Team Leader.
To have a thorough, in depth, knowledge of the requirements of the Council Tax and Business Rates legislation, Business Improvement District Levy regulation and Department of Works and Pensions Housing Benefit Overpayment Recovery regulations and the ability to interpret complex legislation and office procedures is an essential part of the role.
Council Tax Officers will be responsible for maximising and recovering the Council’s income, instigating appropriate recovery action using a variety of methods from making and monitoring individual financial arrangements with customers to liaising with the Council’s Bailiffs, referring cases for Committals, Bankruptcy, Liquidation and Charging Orders.
