Full Job Title: Temporary HR Advisor – Human Resources

This role will involve some training co-ordination/admin tasks but also give flexibility for advisory/case work and be an extra pair of hands for the team to support as required.

To work with colleagues to deliver a comprehensive Human Resources service to the Council (Members, managers and staff).

To create, review and update a range of HR documents to provide sound reliable guidance to managers and staff which supports the delivery of the Council Plan, complies with employment law, is in line with good practice and consistent with the Council’s Human Resources Strategy.

To provide advice and guidance to managers involved in staff restructuring as well as individual cases of discipline, grievance, absence management etc.


Specific Role Requirements” – to give yourself the maximum chance of success please try and ensure your CV addresses the following essential criteria:

  1. Associate Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
  2. Level 5 Certificate/Diploma in Human Resource Management or equivalent
  3. Knowledge & Experience:
    1. Sound experience of developing and maintaining human resources policies and guidance.
    2. Thorough knowledge of legislation and codes of practice relating to discipline, grievance.
    3. Good all round knowledge of employment law, and current developments.
    4. Sound knowledge of equality issues in employment
    5. Rounded and up to date knowledge of good HR practice.
    6. Ability to deliver HR solutions in a pragmatic and service focused manner
  4. Skills & Abilities:
    1. Ability to understand complex legislation and convert it into practical guidance
    2. Ability to deliver HR solutions in a pragmatic and service focused manner
    3. Strong interpersonal skills - able to communicate effectively in a range of situations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    4. Personal resilience to handle stressful and emotional situations.
    5. Ability to plan workload and meet deadlines.
    6. Personal credibility - able to establish him/herself as a trusted advisor.
    7. Integrity and respect of confidentiality
    8. Ability to use MS Office packages effectively, including Microsoft Excel.
