Candidates to work varied hours during Monday to Sunday - covering hours from 1700-0900. The hours can suit the right individual who is looking for part or full time hours.

The successful candidate will join our night & weekend team who can ensure the security of the hostels by controlling access into the buildings and monitoring CCTV and managing risks to the residents.

Key Receptibilities:

  • Safeguard the security of the Council owned hostels by controlling access into the buildings.
  • Be responsible for monitoring and managing risks to residents.
  • Monitor and report entries of residents & visitors, and to report all resident contract breaches.
  • Conduct a security check using CCTV and in house systems to ensure that the person seeking entry is a resident, or authorised visitor of the hostel.
  • Permit entry to all authorised resident(s) and authorised visitor(s).
  • To decline entry to all unauthorized resident(s) and visitor(s)
  • Respond to health & safety issues.
  • Identify and report all necessary repairs to the premises, and any Council owned furnishings, fittings and white goods.
  • Respond to fire alarm emergencies.
  • Talk to residents & liaise with external professionals in conjunction with the duties of the post

Skills & Experience:

  1. Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
  2. Experience of lone working and ability to work on own initiative.
  3. An understanding of homelessness issues.
  4. Experience of controlling access to a building.
  5. Experience of working in a hostel.
  6. Experience of dealing with people with complex needs in difficult situations.
  7. Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
