Enhanced DBS disclosure required

An ESOL Tutor is required primarily expert level. The ability to also deliver beginner engagement Maths will be an advantage. To work face to face with learners for two hours and provide additional support for on-line English lessons for adults in order to improve their English speaking and writing and enthuse them with numeracy skills. This role is perfect for ESOL tutors who are eager to work with adults with a variety of learning needs. Learners will then be signposted to substantive learning at college or online.

Key responsibilities:

  • Planning each session of tutoring/mentoring.
  • Develop a bespoke and cohesive supporting programme using appropriate resources (funding is available).
  • Providing the adult with holistic and engaging sessions which meet their needs and advance their educational journey.
  • Completing lesson reports and providing feedback on the individual's progress.
  • Develop and deliver sessions for learners in mathematics ‘engagement’ activities which will have ‘developing confidence with numbers’ and ‘using numeracy to manage their money’ at their core e.g. board games which include counting (snakes and ladders) card games, and numeracy related activities.

Unless the DBS requirement stated above is for a Basic Disclosure, your DBS must be either through us or be accompanied by a subscription to the DBS updating service.

Qualifications:

  • Professional Teaching Qualifications (for example, PGCE, CELTA, TEFL, TESOL).
  • Qualification in EAL/ESOL – level 3 or above.
  • English Language, Mathematics and ICT GCSE Grade C or above, or equivalent, or comparable ability
  • Current driving licence and own transport.

Experience:

  • Experience working with young people and adults with EAL/ESOL.
  • Experience, knowledge and understanding of safeguarding processes
  • Experience of working sensitively with confidential material.
  • Minimum 2 years’ teaching experience.
  • Experience working with adults.
  • Experience, knowledge and understanding of safeguarding processes.
  • Experience in writing copy in plain English.
  • Experience of handling data and statistics and retrieving data.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent time and task management skills and experience of delivering tasks under pressure.
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Evidence of excellent communication, report writing and organisation skills.
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
  • Proven ability to deliver quality written and oral communication to a range of audiences. Enthusiastic, friendly and energetic approach.
  • Ability to work to time scales and follow process.
  • Ability to be ‘hands-on’ as well as switching to tasks that require concentration
  • Willingness and ability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Confident in the use of web-based tools for communication.
