Having the responsibility for the daily electoral registration of electors within Warwick District, managing and maintaining electoral information and implementation of changes to be made, providing efficient and effective support and assistance to the Electoral Services Manager, Deputy Returning Officer & Deputy Electoral Registration Officer in the management and development of the Council’s statutory Electoral Services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Having the sole responsibility for the planning and management of the daily work flow and training for the Electoral Services Assistant and the Electoral Services Support & IER Canvasser and the recruitment, appointment and training of temporary staff employed to undertake Canvassing and Electoral duties. The secure maintenance of all data and paper records ensuring deliverance of a high quality service.
  • Responsible for the planning and daily management of electors registering to vote within the District. The secure loading of personal electoral information to and from the national website, ensuring confidentiality is respected and maintained at all times when managing personal data via the electronic work queues and or paper documents. Monthly reporting to government bodies and political parties of all amendments and changes made and the republishing of the electoral register.
  • Responsible for the daily management maintaining Absent Voter records and the registration of special category voters ensuring that all categories of electors are not disenfranchised from voting. Ensuring that confidentiality is respected and maintained at all times when managing personal data via electronic work queues and/or paper documents.
  • Undertaking a leading and responsible role in the planning, risk management, organisation and management of the running of all elections and referenda held within the District.
  • Undertaking a leading and responsible role in the planning, risk management, organisation and management of the running of the annual electoral registration canvass and annual publication of the revised electoral register.

  • Educated to HNC level or equivalent and hold the Certificate in Electoral Administration.
  • Hold a current driving license


Detailed knowledge and understanding of Elections Law and Electoral Registration (IER) and of guidance and current developments in the profession.


  • Have 3-5 years working experience of Electoral Administration.
  • Experience of the planning and preparation for the holding of national and local Elections and Referendum, the recruitment and supervising of casual staff.
  • Experience of organising the annual Electoral Registration Canvass, the recruitment and supervising casual staff.
  • Experience of all aspects of Individual Electoral Registration (IER).
  • Experience of Elections and Electoral Registration Risk Management.
  • Experience of using Election/Electoral Registration software.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent motivation skills.
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • High level of computer literacy and proven skills in use of data matching/data searching.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet statutory deadlines for prolonged periods of time i.e. during registration and election periods.
  • Ability to manage changing and conflicting demands.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work within politically sensitive environment.
  • A flexible approach with the ability to organise and prioritise own workload.
