Successful candidates will be required to work out of our offices in Yeovil, Somerset.

The postholder will provide customer focused, high quality and responsive service at the contact centre which  is the first point of contact for customers need help and support regarding the vast number of services offered by the Council including Highways, Transport, Council Tax, Benefits, Housing, Waste and Recycling and many more

Key responsibilities:

  • Respond to contacts predominately via the telephone also digital interactions e.g. live chat and social media as well as email from members of the public, service users and associated professionals
  • Take all relevant details from the customer and depending on the nature of the contact, make formal referrals, suggest appropriate action to resolve the query and, as necessary, refer issues of appropriate urgency or complexity to key contacts/organisations.
  • Take ownership of difficult calls, using customer service skills and judgement to determine the best course of action however there are support or escalation routes if necessary.
  • Undertake an initial assessment of often complex needs using prompts and information contained on various sources of electronic systems and databases.
  • Log all enquiries on appropriate systems and sign-post people to online support materials wherever possible rather than using paper materials.
  • Support, training and coaching for staff and provide data and intelligence on what the Council delivers.

Experience & Knowledge / Technical skills

  • Proven experience of working within team providing an excellent standard of customer service
  • GCSE Level English and Mathematics (at Grade C or above) or equivalent
  • Working towards (or willing to) NVQ 3 Customer Care and ECDL qualification or equivalent
  • Experienced operator in Windows based technology e.g. Web & telephone
  • Experienced in dealing with and defusing conflict

 

Skills & Abilities

  • Concise, accurate and professional written and verbal communication skills
  • A Good Listener
  • Problem solver.
  • Demonstration of good diagnostic and questioning ability.
  • Empathetic
  • Ability to deal with some highly sensitive subject matters with empathy and understanding.
  • Ability to easily build a rapport and engage with others
  • Able and prepared to adapt to different circumstances.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft products
