What's involved with this role:

Corporate Health & Safety Advisor

Pay rate up to £203.50 per day PAYE depending on experience (tbc)   

To provide a competent, pragmatic, professional health and safety advisory and support service to Council services and monitor compliance through audits and inspections 

Key responsibilities: 

 

  • Assist managers and staff to implement the Council’s health and safety strategy, to continually improve the safety management system.  
  • Provide advice to managers to eliminate or reduce the potential risks of harm/injury/work related ill health to those whom we have a duty and responsibility.  
  • Provide advice and guidance to control all high-risk activities, e.g. asbestos, legionella, confined spaces, hot works, working at height 
  • Ensure advice and guidance is given with consideration not only by legislative requirements but also by a practical common-sense approach to problem solving. This may include supporting managers with project or contractor management  
  • To support directors and senior managers in managing health and safety by providing required reports e.g. performance reports, annual reports, etc.  
  • Analyse accident / incident information and statistics to help managers inform strategies to reduce rates of near misses, accidents and work related ill health.  
  • Provide advice and information on work related ill health, e.g. stress 
  • Assist service heads to provide an effective means of employee consultation and participation with TU and all employees, contractors, service/suppliers’ representatives.  
  • To support managers in their understanding and use of the risk assessment process to ensure all significant risks are properly and proportionally assessed and recorded  
  • To access, use and develop the online health and safety information systems within the health and safety team 

“Role Requirements” – to give yourself the maximum chance of success please try and ensure your CV addresses the following essential criteria: 

  • NEBOSH General Certificate in H&S 
  • IOSH membership of at least TechIOSH level 
  • Good level of knowledge and understanding of health and safety terminology, legislation and best practice 
  • Knowledge of construction related health and safety standards 
  • Substantial health and safety experience 
  • Experience of practical health and safety application in diverse operational areas is a must, as well as being an accident investigator and report writer too 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Be able to interpret and apply statutory requirement as applicable to Council 
  • Be able to correctly prioritise health and safety work requests and activities
