Standard DBS required for this role

The purpose of this role is to deliver a 24/7 multi modal operational response. To manage operations of transport network and assets and lead on incident and event management to deliver an effective and cohesive organisational response across the GM transport network. Working double days, so earlies and lates, including weekends but no nights.

Control Room experience is required for this role – this can be in any kind of busy multi agency control room, any emergency service, any transport related control room or utility type control room. Some experience of call handling/incident management /network monitoring/team working also required. Experience of CCTV and use of CCTV systems (does not matter which type as will be trained on system) also required. The successful applicant must know how to use CCTV i.e. what it can and can’t be used for/be familiar with the legal framework around using CCTV i.e. GDPR/Information Governance/processing CCTV downloads.

Key responsibilities:

  • Monitor live transport activity using specific individual mode monitoring systems and data sources. Provide basic interventions, in a timely manner, to support transport network performance across all modes.
  • Maintain records of data/information incoming via a logging system.
  • Monitor council and partner CCTV for network monitoring purposes, safety and the security of council assets.
  • Active monitoring using established applications, technologies and systems, CCTV, and social media.
  • Continual prioritising and reviewing of modal network statuses, identify issues of concern and initiate prescribed basic interventions. Liaise and escalate any ongoing incidents to the Duty Manager or Control Centre Officers above defined thresholds.
  • Work within the compliance remit of council CCTV Code of Practice, Human Rights Act and Data Protection Act.
  • Complete tasks within specified timescales whilst working under pressure. Prioritise workload whilst dealing with emergency/unplanned incidents.
  • Participate in incident response and special event management, whilst monitoring the network. Work flexibly, on 24/7 shift patterns as required.
  • Monitor and manage incidents, escalating accordingly in line with corporate processes.
  • Provide excellent customer service to the travelling public, operators, stakeholders and internal departments.
  • Triage communications from various sources in an effective manner including phone calls and incident messaging. Ensure compliance with all applicable organisational legislation and policy.

Qualifications:

  • SIA - Security Industry Accreditation – SIA specifically for CCTV, monitoring, capturing people (to understand the legal framework for CCTV).
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.

 

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Control Room experience – this can be in any kind of busy multi agency control room, so any emergency service, any transport related control room or utility type control room. Some experience of call handling/incident management/network monitoring/team working.
  • CCTV – experience and use of CCTV systems (does not matter which type as will be trained on system). Must know how to use CCTV i.e. what it can and can’t be used for/be familiar with the legal framework around using CCTV i.e. GDPR/Information Governance/processing CCTV downloads.
  • Ideally, some network knowledge of the GM transport /Highways network.
  • Experience of maintaining confidentiality agreements and adhering to relevant data protection legislation.
  • Experience of providing excellent customer service in various formats to stakeholders and customers.
  • Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to analyse and validate technical data to identify live network issues, and respond to support the operation of the transport network.
  • Ability to work in a busy multi agency environment, providing information to various audiences and the ability to identify any conflicts in operational activity.
  • Ability to manage varying workloads effectively in a pressurised environment.
  • Ability to use logging systems to record information/ data from a range of sources in real time accurately.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, contributing to team objectives and supporting colleagues to deliver an effective service.
  • Ability to demonstrate operational and analytical thinking with an eye for detail.
  • Flexible and happy to work in a rotating shift pattern.
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
