What's involved with this role:

The Community Vaccine Champions project aims to support vaccine uptake in the community. Two Communications and Engagement officers are required, one post holder will work closely with families, schools and young people and the other post holder will work with the wider communities with low vaccination uptake. Candidates will be considered for both roles, however, please indicate your preference in your application.

The post holders will hold a strategic overview of the communications and engagement activities of the Community Vaccine Champion Fund project. The role will play a key part in developing networks and relationships with Voluntary Care Services (VCS), Health Ambassadors, community groups, and other organisations to develop partnership working to maximise opportunities for the immunisation programmes.

The post holders will be responsible for working across the council, reporting to the Community Vaccine Champion Fund Steering Group and working closely with Public Health teams.

Key responsibilities:

  • Act as a visible and accessible point of contact for VCS organisations/Health Ambassadors/Schools to promote COVID-19 vaccination programme and wider immunisation programmes.
  • Oversee the communication and engagement activities led by Health Ambassadors and VCS organisations.
  • Research and map event audiences and businesses to ensure communications are tailored and targeted
  • Provide regular reporting and updates on all communications and engagement events to Senior Communications
  • Play a key role in maintaining a communications network across the council and its delivery units and partners to support joined up working and consistency of message and knowledge sharing.
  • Develop, write, edit and review communication assets for the programme tailored to the needs of different community groups, including written and visual content across print and digital channels, and case study development.
  • Manage suppliers and logistics of production and delivery of campaign assets, including design and print to ensure quality and deadlines are met
  • Ensure a robust data collection and management of all communication assets.
  • Support in the co-ordination and delivery of community engagement events, including commissioning photography and videography.
  • Provide peer to peer support and act as a facilitator for opportunities to discuss and engage with communities about vaccines.
  • Co-ordinate programme priorities within the public health and communications teams, liaise with the strategy team.

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Delivering evidence-based communications projects and campaigns to a range of audiences, including internal.
  • Developing and maintaining communication and engagement channels, including online and ideally interactive methods such as events, webinars, discussions etc.
  • Producing engaging written and visual content for different channels including print and digital.
  • Organising events.
  • Working with a range of people at all levels and a good understanding of how to engage with difference audiences and meet differing needs.
  • Knowledge and experience of engagement techniques.

 

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively in appropriate styles at all levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop strong, positive relationships
  • Ability to develop creative ideas and innovative approaches for engaging with colleagues.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, with excellent organisational skills to meet tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Experience of communicating with and influencing others, working effectively within the team and as part of multi-disciplinary working groups and projects.
  • Able to fully utilise standard Microsoft Office products in particular Outlook, Word and Excel (essential).
