What's involved with this role:

Band E- DPA Caseworker x10 – Counter Terrorism Policing

Pay rate £11.95 per hour PAYE   

Its onsite though until fully trained so 4-6 weeks and then remote working 2 days per week

This role is for a leading London Police organisation, candidates with current CTC/SC clearances will go through their vetting processes, currently this is taking up to 6 months.  If you are already in a contract that potentially is not ending for a few months and this role is of interest, do let us know, we would be happy to discuss further. 

NB: Police Vacancy - only for candidates with a minimum of 3 years continuous UK address history. 

The DPA Right of Access team are responsible for processing Right of Access Requests made under the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA), General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and requests from insurance companies under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Association of British Insurers (ABI) and the National Police Chief’s Council (NPCC) 

Key responsibilities: 

 

  • Uses specialist knowledge to make informed decisions in relation to the disclosure of personal data held by the MPS requested by applicants under the Right of Access provisions of the Data Projection Act 2018 (DPA) and General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and the NPCC/ABI Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
    Considers and applies exemptions to information held by the MPS requested as part of a right of access request in order to assess whether the personal data can be disclosed in its entirety, partially disclosed or completely withheld. The consideration requires detailed knowledge of DPA legislation and the ability to make risk based assessments on the information gathered with regards to the impact any such release has on the MPS, the applicant and other third parties that might be involved. 
  • Ensures that the processing of right of access requests and MOU requests are completed in accordance with the legislation’s statutory timeframe. This requires the ability to deal with a large number of requests, which are at different stages of the process, contemporaneously. 
  • Ensures that the processing of requests received under NPCC/ABI Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) are completed in accordance with the timeframes outlined in the policy. This requires the ability to deal with a large number of requests, which are at different stages of the process, contemporaneously. 
  • Searches and examines police systems and databases in order to locate information relevant to requests, persists in seeking information adopting a variety of strategies. Recognises information needs, identifies and utilises appropriate information sources. This task also requires legislative knowledge in order to make decisions on what information is relevant to include in those searches. 
  • Engages with officers/staff of various ranks in order to gather information relevant and in scope of the request. This may involve providing legislative advice to them that clarifies what a right of access request is and the importance of complying with it due to the statutory nature of the requests. This advice is can be given via email/telephone or meetings.  In certain circumstances will be given the support of their line manager and SMT where required for more complex or sensitive requests/investigations. 
  • Reviews and makes decisions regarding disclosure on investigations ranging the entire spectrum of policing, such as Fraud, Murder, Kidnap, Anti-Terrorism and many more very complex and often sensitive investigations. This requires the ability to understand the information being considered for disclosure in order to engage relevant exemptions using legislative knowledge. 
  • Provides advice and updates to applicants via telephone or in writing in accordance with the legislation ensuring that third party data is not inadvertently disclosed. 
  • Conducts reviews of CCTV & custody footage using legislative knowledge to make decisions on disclosure and redactions. Maybe required to perform redactions on that footage. 
  • Utilises knowledge of Freedom of Information (FOI) to identify any questions within a right of access request that may fall under FOI that need to be dealt with as such and liaises with the correct team in order for the request to be logged

  • Knowledge of MPS systems i.e. CRIS, CRIMINT, IIP, EAPPS etc 
  • Knowledge of Case Management system Cycfreedom 
  • Knowledge of MPS units and who to contact to obtain relevant information 
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills 
  • Ability to pay attention to detail 
  • Ability to look at the bigger picture when dealing with complex and sensitive cases 
  • Ability to pick up and assimilate relevant information quickly and easily
