The role can be suitable for entry level accountants with minimal relevant experience who have a strong academic record and a drive to progress with a finance career, through to part qualified accountants or those with three years’ experience in a similar role, to exam finalists or those with up to five years in a similar role.

Property fixed assets are the group’s largest asset with a value of approximately £1.8 billion. The role is responsible for the control and maintenance of the property fixed asset registers and other fixed assets record keeping.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain the property and other fixed asset ledgers, using the Asset 4000 (A4K) fixed assets module, for all group companies.
  • Ensure property additions and disposals are accounted for correctly, distinguishing between general needs and shared ownership properties.
  • Ensure accurate recording and set up of new components for property unit completions and acquisitions in line with group policy and procedures.
  • Process component replacements within A4K (including journal preparation).
  • Create monthly depreciation entries for review and processing
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations for housing and other fixed assets, for all group companies.
  • Work with Asset Management and Maintenance to improve systems and processes for the recording of component replacements and estimated useful lives.
  • Monitoring the depreciation charge against budget and aid in the preparation of forecasts.
  • Identify any “other” fixed assets for serviced charge purposes
  • Maintain Warm Homes Grant (grant) records liaising with Asset Management and Maintenance staff as appropriate.
  • Support the Development Fixed Asset Accountant with the preparation of housing property fixed asset notes for each company’s statutory accounts.

  2. CIH qualification and/or significant demonstrable housing management experience.


Skills & Experience:

  1. Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
  2. Relevant experience includes working as part of a financial reporting team, management accounting, budgeting, working with financial systems and working as part of a larger team to achieve common goals.
  3. Experience and understanding of the basic concepts of fixed asset accounting would be an advantage.
  4. Ability to handle and process large volumes of data efficiently and accurately.
  5. Ability to work with different teams across finance and development operations with understanding of the different needs and requirements of the group’s various stakeholders.
  6. Experience and knowledge of specialist financial systems is desirable.
  7. Ability to analyse, interpret and present information clearly and concisely.
  8. Ability to manage workload and deliver outputs to specific deadlines.
  9. ICT Skills: Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
