The purpose of the role is to deliver complex, high quality technical administrative support to different teams across the Education for Vulnerable Children service.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide a skilled and flexible technical administrative support service across the Council.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for meeting tight deadlines and committed to high standards of customer care
  • Have a flexible and adaptable approach to work, and contribute to delivering an excellent service by making suggestions to improving work practices.
  • Provide financial administrative support to service area.
  • Be responsible for tasks, duties and information, appropriate to specific areas of support.
  • Produce reports, analysis and statistical information as required.
  • Handle routine, and occasionally more complex telephone enquiries, taking accurate messages or responding appropriately.
  • Support Team managers to ensure compliance with all corporate requests.
  • Deal with a wide range of enquiries with minimal supervision.
  • Assist and support staff in undertaking their jobs.
  • Be aware of new legislative changes and identify the implications this will have on business processes.
  • Flexibility to undertake any role within the team.
  • Gathering information and update records.
  • Set up new systems for the effective and efficient processing of work.
  • Support internal budget commitment authorisation processes to ensure effective delivery of supplier service.

  1. GCSE level pass in maths and English, or able to demonstrate equivalent standard in literacy and numeracy.


Skills & Experience:

  1. Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
  2. Experience of supporting a multi-disciplinary teams with comprehensive technical administration services (including meeting arrangements, minute taking, and database/system administration).
  3. Experience of prioritising high volumes of work effectively and accurately, and to deal with routine matters on own initiative within deadlines.
  4. Experience of developing and maintaining good working relationships with clients, senior colleagues and Members of the Council.
  5. Experience of dealing sensitively with members of the public in a variety of situations.
  6. Experience in managing high volumes of work effectively and accurately, and to deal with routine matters on own initiative within deadlines.
  7. Ability to use financial systems i.e. Oracle.
  8. ICT Skills: Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
