The purpose of the role is to provide comprehensive and high quality technical administrative support to Highways team, meeting performance targets and embedding a culture of "Putting our residents first" where continuous service improvement is maintained. To show flexibility in adapting to delivery of different functions to meet the demands.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide a skilled and flexible technical administrative support service to Highways Team, able to re-act to peaks and troughs of work in the team, as required.
  • Deliver complex, routine and emergency tasks against the technical administrative standards to ensure consistency in maintaining service delivery.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for meeting tight deadlines and committed to high standards of customer care
  • Have a flexible and adaptable approach to work and contribute to delivering an excellent service by making suggestions to improving work practices.
  • Work with colleagues and across teams to implement new ways of working.
  • Prioritise tasks assigned and escalating any gaps to senior managers.
  • Provide technical support to Highways Structures team i.e. Abnormal load movement, asset management and data base
  • Provide financial administrative support to managers and prepare a monthly spending report for Head of Highways.
  • Be responsible for tasks, duties and information, appropriate to specific areas of support and the wider Group as necessary.
  • Produce reports, analysis and statistical information as required.
  • Handle routine and occasionally more complex telephone enquiries, taking accurate messages or responding appropriately.
  • Support senior managers to ensure compliance with all corporate requests.

  1. GCSE level pass in maths and English, or able to demonstrate equivalent standard in literacy and numeracy.


Skills & Experience:

  1. Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
  2. Ability to manage high volumes of work effectively and accurately, and to deal with routine matters on own initiative within deadlines.
  3. Ability to develop and maintain good relations with service users, senior colleagues and Members of the Council with an understanding of the role of elected Members.
  4. Ability to provide administrative support for a wide range of services.
  5. Good standard of literacy and ability to draft routine correspondence.
  6. Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  7. ICT Skills: Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
