Car driver with valid license and insurance or ability to travel to all areas of the County as this role is working in schools throughout Somerset

This role is for a Schools ICT Engineer to work within a team of IT Engineers in Primary/Secondary schools in all areas of Somerset. The role will include regular engagements with staff, students and visitors to the school and therefore excellent interpersonal skills are essential.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deal with enquiries from customers face to face and via telephone, email and online.
  • Ensure that incidents are logged and recorded and then dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Deliver quality customer service at all times.
  • Build and deploy end-user devices to students and staff.
  • Install applications onto user devices.
  • Address requests for assistance with printers and other equipment.
  • Undertake essential administrative tasks such as asset management and technical documentation.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft products, Windows 7 and 10 (and Server operating systems).
  • Knowledge of mixed Apple and Microsoft infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Networking fundamentals and Information sharing solutions (Sharepoint driven Virtual Learning Environment).
  • Knowledge of desktop and portable IT equipment, software and hardware.
  • Understanding of multi-functional printers, and their integration into an operational environment.
  • Some knowledge of Apple equipment and their use in a networked environment.

Skills & Experience:

  • Good communication skills both verbal & written.
  • A proven track record of delivering work to deadlines.
  • Experience of hardware and software support – PCs, printers, projectors.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to accurately analyse and assess problems.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage own time effectively and to work to deadlines.
  • Some experience of IT in education is desirable but not essential.
  • Some experience of working in a customer services environment.
  • Ability to build and test user devices in a range of operating system environments.
  • Self-motivated with good time management and planning skills.
  • Keen interest in IT and delivering high-quality services.
  • An effective team player, willing to take responsibility to resolve issues.
  • Excellent attendance record in previous employment.
  • Full, clean driving license.
  • Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
