Pay Rate: Up to £350 per day pay range subject to IR35 status

Base location: Worthing, candidate can be based anywhere, however 2-3 face to face meeting in London or Birmingham will be required for the contract duration.

The Interim Drainage & Wastewater Management Plans Advisor will work as part of a small national team, the role will synthesise the local and national views to provide draft consultation responses to water company DWMPs, so the team clearly set out the Agency position and views to maximise the opportunities to deliver multiple environmental benefits across a range of environmental disciplines.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To provide technical support to area the EA contribution to draft consultations. So the first cycle DWMP plans include a good evidence base for water company business plans for Price Review 2024.
  • To support on the roll out of training material and workshops relating to DWMPs to area teams.
  • To support the  preparation for statutory plans (second cycle) to a statutory footing following the Environment Bill receiving Royal Assent in autumn 2021
  • To work closely with other departments, including Water, Land & Biodiversity and Operational Catchment Services to find one business solutions that stick and help teams deliver great outcomes in local places.
  • Manage day-to-day aspects of the DWMP Advisor functions under direction of the nominated Team Leader including
  • Knowledge of water industry drainage and wastewater management plans (DWMPs), price review process and business planning (Asset Management Plans), water company performance metrics and general water management.
  • Team working. Work with members of own team and other teams within the Environment Agency to draw together comments and sub-divide tasks as required. Key skills required – ability to work effectively in a team
  • Communications and report writing. Producing high quality and concise writing for incorporation into the consultation responses to DWMPs.
  • Customer engagement. Understand customer needs, interpret this against business objectives to formulate coherent responses in accordance with the Customer Charter.


Key Requirements:

  • Knowledge of DWMPs and associated integrated water solutions thinking
  • Knowledge of Price Review process
  • Knowledge of central government ministry ways of working and water companies
  • Educational experience is required in an engineering or science background or customer related field. (This experience may be gained through a combination of formal qualifications and some experience through to no formal qualification and substantial experience.)
  • Working towards, a specific professional qualification or membership of a professional body
  • A self-starter who thrives on achieving results
  • Excellent at self-management with an ability to work independently and use your initiative
  • Experienced at working through complex problems and delivering solutions
  • A great coordinator who has worked with operational colleagues on solutions that enable great outcomes
  • Comfortable leading technical change and managing networks
  • Proven at working with customers to build organisational capability and capacity
