Temporary Network Engineer - Information Technology

An experienced Network Engineer is required to participate as a member of the Network Team in order to deliver a timely and professional support service to both Corporate IT and Trust staff. Providing assistance with the “Business As Usual” operational tasks and dealing with resolution of incidents. The engineer will need to have significant “hands on” experience in implementing and working with IP networks and working on Cisco switches, routers, firewalls and Wireless services. There may be a requirement to install and configure Cisco IP telephony handsets and user profiles.
Assist in the maintenance all aspects of network security, including firewall access control and logging, ensuring that all external connections meet appropriate levels of access and security in accordance with Corporate IT and local Network Team procedures.
The engineer may also be required to provide support for ongoing projects within the Trust and will be expected to travel to various sites across 4 counties.
Dimensions:
- Trust wide 10,500 users, including 4000+ remote users, 200+ sites.
- 5500+ end point devices including PCs, laptops, tablets, printers, scanners and other trust standard end-point devices.
- 600+ network devices.
- 70+ Local Area networks.
- 200 IP Networks.
- 2500+ IP phones.
- ITIL compliant Service Desk call logging system.
- Installation and on-going support of Trust owned IT equipment in the homes of Trust employees, partner agency sites and locations used by the Trust for seminars and conferences.
- Support and specialist knowledge of other types of end user devices (e.g. Ipads, tablets and smartphones).

Qualifications:
- Educated to degree/HND/CISCO (CCNA/CCNP) or equivalent in a relevant discipline or significant experience in supporting IP networks.
Skills & Experience:
- Understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, spanning tree, OSPF, BGP SNMP and CIDR to an intermediate level.
- Demonstrated understanding of and experience in supporting a local and wide area network environment.
- Good knowledge of cisco firewalls, routers, and switches.
- Ability to analyse, investigate and resolve complex im&T queries.
- Good configuration and administration skills on Cisco switches, routers and ASA firewalls.
- Good working knowledge of routing and switching.
- Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
- Good working knowledge of enterprise wireless networks including installation and management.
- Able to communicate technical information to staff, colleagues and others as required.
- Able to understand and create detailed technical documentation and Handover to Support documentation for both technical and non-technical staff, for example Service Desk.
- Ability to assist in the maintenance of all aspects of network security, including firewall access control and logging, ensuring that all external connections meet appropriate levels of access and security in accordance with Corporate IT and local Network Team procedures.
- Ability to ensure that the Project Manager and line manager are kept informed of real time technical issues and changes as they arise.
- Highly customer focused.
- Have the physical ability to lift heavy network equipment into position.
- Be able to travel between locations is an essential part of the role and can be physically demanding due to the urban and rural areas covered. Car driver with valid license and insurance or ability to travel throughout 4 counties.
